Kirsty Knivett, Director
I love what I do! I’ve worked in safeguarding for over 24 years, in the community, online, charity, secure and education sectors, and all to facilitate, support, empower and protect.
I am a trained facilitator and an excellent communicator. I thoroughly believe in the process of conscientisation and in the principles of empowering and advocating for others. I am a registered social worker (SW93510).
I have a Masters degree in Applied Theatre from the University of Manchester. After moving to York, I supported students in secondary school settings who had issues impacting on their attendance. For a number of years, I worked for the NSPCC, including being part of a seconded team for a year to help set up a new provision. This was orginally the Schools Service, now known as the ‘Speak Up, Stay Safe’ programme. I qualified as a social worker in 2013 and received a distinction.
I was the first Safeguarding Lead for Ingeus, working across divisions of Employability, Youth Services (NCS programme), Health (NDPP) and Apprenticeships. I have also been the Head of Safeguarding and Prevent for an FE colleges and universities group.
I am highly skilled in reviewing, creating and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures. My training is expert-level on safeguarding issues, ensuring it is relevant, meaningful and very engaging for specific settings and a variety of professionals.
I’m very proud to now be the sole Director of Because2 Ltd.

Ange Baxter – Safeguarding Associate
Ange has previously worked for Childline, overseeing volunteers and children’s interactions. She has supported families affected by domestic abuse, supported refugees and adults in residential care.
Ellie Lowther - Inclusion Specialist
Ellie Lowther is a leader in the area of Inclusion across the UK. We are delighted to be working together with her on various projects, especially supporting the Free To Be Me ethos.
